Establishing the Eastern Mediterranean Poison Centers Network
In February 2019, an expert consultation meeting to launch the Eastern Mediterranean poison centers network was held in Amman, Jordan under the aegis of The Regional Centre for Environmental Health Action (CEHA) and The National Drug and Poison Information Center in Jordan.
This regional meeting was considered as the first to be attended by representatives of 11 poisoncenters in the Eastern Mediterranean Region: Egypt, Islamic Republic of Iran, Jordan, Morocco,Oman, Pakistan, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, and United Arab Emirates. The meeting gave the participants of the Eastern Mediterranean poison centers the opportunity toshare their experiences in the field of poison prevention and management. It also focused on theestablishment of poison centers network of the region and its term of references. Furthermore,one of the major outcomes of this meeting was the development of a regional framework onpublic health preparedness and response to chemical events to over bridge the gaps andchallenges in IHR implementation related to chemical events in the region.
